Thailand holidays: what to know before you go

When to go

Season is everything here. November to April is dry and sunny — the best time and the priciest. May–October is the rainy season: showers usually last an hour or two, and prices drop noticeably. Note: Phuket (west coast) and Samui (east coast) get rain in different months — September is wet on Phuket, November on Samui. So ask your operator about your specific resort when choosing dates.

Phuket or Pattaya

Phuket: ocean, beautiful beaches and island trips (Phi Phi, James Bond Island) — stronger nature, higher price. Pattaya: cheaper, lively and full of entertainment, with less pristine water — but islands like Ko Larn are a short boat ride away. For a calm family holiday choose Phuket or Krabi; for a first visit and seeing a lot, Pattaya (Bangkok is close).

Visa and documents

Uzbek citizens travel to Thailand visa-free for tourism. Your passport should have comfortable validity; border officers may ask for a return ticket and hotel booking, so keep them handy. Important: permitted stay and procedures change — your operator checks for your dates.

Money, food and safety

The currency is the baht; change dollars locally. Street food is excellent and cheap (2–4 dollars), restaurants 10–20. Drink bottled water only. Watch for red flags at the beach — currents can be strong. Renting a scooter: helmets are mandatory and insurance often does NOT cover motorbike injuries — know that in advance. 30–50 dollars a day per person is enough.

Getting there

Tashkent to Bangkok is about 7 hours direct; Phuket is usually via Bangkok or another hub. Time difference: plus two hours. It is a long trip, so take at least 8–10 days — five days is mostly travel fatigue.
