Which beach to choose
Patong is the busiest and liveliest: shops, restaurants, nightlife. Kata and Karon are calmer and more family-friendly, with wider beaches. For quiet and children choose Kata or Karon; for energy, Patong. Ask your operator how far the hotel is from the beach.
When to go
The best time is November to April: dry and a calm sea. May to October brings more rain and waves, swimming can be unsafe on some beaches, and prices are lower. Ask your operator about your specific month.
What to see
Day boat trips to the Phi Phi islands and Phang Nga Bay, the Big Buddha statue and Phuket Old Town. Book excursions through your operator rather than from street sellers.
Practical notes
Drink bottled water. Be careful renting a scooter: insurance often does not cover motorbike injuries. The flight is long, so take at least 7 nights.
