When to go

Baku is at its best in May–June and September–October: 22–28°C with a soft breeze. July–August are hot and humid, but that is when the Caspian is warm (25–26) and the beach season peaks. Winter is mild but windy — Baku is called the City of Winds for a reason. In spring, Gabala and Sheki are green and cool, ideal for the mountains.

What to see

Icherisheher, the walled old town: the Maiden Tower, the Shirvanshahs’ Palace, narrow lanes. The Flame Towers and the Heydar Aliyev Centre are modern Baku’s face. The seaside boulevard is made for evening walks. Outside the city: Gobustan’s rock art and mud volcanoes, and Yanardag, where flames burn straight out of the ground. A day away lies Sheki: a caravanserai, sweets and mountains.

Visa and documents

Uzbek citizens travel to Azerbaijan visa-free. You need a valid passport. Children need their own; without parents, notarised consent. Important: rules can change — your operator checks for your dates.

Money and language

The currency is the manat. Cards work almost everywhere in the city; cash is for bazaars and small shops. Russian is widely understood and Azerbaijani is close to Uzbek — communication is easy, which is a real convenience. Dinner for two runs 20–35 dollars. Order taxis via an app.

Getting there

Tashkent–Baku takes about 2.5–3 hours on regular flights. Time difference: minus three hours. The short trip and visa-free entry make Azerbaijan one of the easiest long-weekend options.
