Maldives holidays: what to know before you go
When to go
The best window is November to April: dry, sunny, calm ocean. May–October is the rainy season — showers are short, there is still plenty of sun, and prices drop noticeably; that is the only real way to do the Maldives cheaper. The water stays at 28°C year-round. New Year and February are the priciest, and rooms sell out early.
What the price covers — and what it does not
In the Maldives a hotel is an entire island, so prices are high and the choice matters. The price covers flights, the hotel and board. The biggest SEPARATE cost is getting to the island: a seaplane or speedboat can run to several hundred dollars per person. Always ask about it before signing. Also, water villas cost noticeably more than beach rooms, and drinks and spa are usually extra.
Visa and documents
The Maldives issues a tourist permit on arrival — no advance visa. You need a passport valid at least six months beyond your return, a return ticket and a hotel booking. That is part of the appeal: no paperwork to chase. Important: rules can change — your operator confirms.
Who it suits
The Maldives is about quiet and time as a couple: honeymoons, anniversaries, escaping the noise. There are no excursions or city life — just ocean, coral and your island. If you love the underwater world, snorkelling starts right off the beach. With children, choose an island with a kids’ club and a close reef. If you want activity and variety, Thailand or the UAE is the honest choice.
Getting there
Tashkent to Malé is one stop (usually via Dubai), 9–12 hours. Time difference: plus four hours. On arrival there is a transfer to your island — seaplanes fly only in daylight, so a late flight can mean a night in the capital. Your operator plans for this in advance.
