When to go

Batumi’s beach season runs June to September; July–August are hottest and busiest, while September is the sweet spot — warm water, fewer people. For Tbilisi and Kakheti, April–June and September–October are best: mild, beautiful, and October brings the grape harvest (rtveli). In winter the mountains open: Gudauri and Bakuriani offer cheap, close skiing.

Batumi or Tbilisi

Batumi means sea, a long promenade, casinos and nightlife; the beaches are pebble, so bring water shoes. Tbilisi means the old town, sulphur baths, restaurants and mountains around; no sea, but more to see. Often the best answer is both: a few days in Tbilisi, then the sea in Batumi — about six hours by road or an hour by air apart.

Visa and documents

Uzbek citizens need no visa for Georgia — one of the destination’s big conveniences. Bring your passport, and keep your return ticket and hotel booking to hand. Children flying without parents need notarised consent. Important: rules can change — your operator confirms for your dates.

Food and money

People come to Georgia for the food: khachapuri, khinkali, grilled meat, homemade wine. A filling dinner for two runs about 15–25 dollars. The currency is the lari; cash is needed at markets and on minibuses, cards work elsewhere. Tbilisi has a cheap metro; order taxis through an app. 30–50 dollars a day per person is comfortable.

Getting there

Tashkent to Tbilisi is about 3 hours; Batumi is usually via Tbilisi. Time difference: minus three hours. The short hop makes Georgia work even for a four- or five-day break.
