Who it suits
Sanya is on Hainan island, China’s southernmost sea resort. It stays warm in winter, so it suits those who want the sea in the cold season. Large hotels, most often with breakfast.
Which area to choose
Dadonghai is the liveliest: restaurants, shops, a beach close to town. Sanya Bay has a long, calmer beach. Yalong Bay has large quiet hotels farther from town. Haitang Bay has big resort complexes. Families often prefer Yalong Bay or Haitang Bay.
When to go
The best time is November to April: dry and warm. Summer is hot and humid, and autumn can bring typhoons. Ask your operator when picking dates.
